I spent last weekend on a course at the Glasgow Print Studio learning how to make my own screen prints. I missed out on this at School so it was completely new to me. I love the hands-on crafted approach to screen-printing. It can be pain-stakingly slow to get the finished print but the end result is so rewarding.

I hope to do a lot more in the future, in fact I’ll probably join the Glasgow Print Studio and continue to sell my prints online.

Keeping with the hands-on crafted approach I wanted to make some artwork that didn’t use the computer at all. It was great using paint brushes and pens again (something else I’ll doing a lot more of too). Below is the finished 4 colour print and the screen artwork.

Introducing Dear Green – Glasgow based artisan coffee roasters.
Pictured below is their shiny new logo I’ve been working on. There’s lots more stuff to follow over the coming months. The name Dear Green was inspired by the colour of the coffee beans. They’re originally green and turn brown when they’re roasted. It’s also a reference to Glasgow as it was once known as the ‘Dear Green Place’.

Strathclyde University Incubators recently tasked me with producing a marketing pack to promote their services to start-ups in the technology sector. The result was ‘Growing Companies’ an A5 postcard pack held together by a belly band. The cards feature quotes and testimonials from businesses that have grown with the assistance of SUI. The cards were gloss varnished on one side leaving a toothy uncoated feel on the reverse. Nine cards were printed and the entire set looks pretty colourful. I’ll post more pics on the official KVGD website soon.

It’s been a really busy month here at KVGD towers and I’m thrilled to announce (after a four-way creative pitch) I’ve been appointed to handle the branding and marketing communications for The Whisky Bond – a creative factory for Glasgow with shared values of independence and innovation at its heart – a place for renegades and game-changers to succeed  – opens April 2012.

This is a major client win and a fantastic opportunity to work with people who value quality design. This video gives an insight to the vision for the Whisky Bond.
